Yosemite Creek Daylighting

Improving Our Sewer System and Benefiting the Community
The Upper Yosemite Creek Daylighting Project is one of several green infrastructure projects that the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) will construct over the next few years. These projects are part of the Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP), a multi-billion dollar citywide investment required to upgrade our aging sewer infrastructure now and for generations to come.
The Upper Yosemite Creek Daylighting Project will feature innovative green infrastructure technologies to help manage and treat stormwater before it enters the combined sewer system. Green infrastructure uses the natural process of plants and soil to drain, filter, and clean stormwater, reducing the burden on the sewer system.

In close coordination with the Recreation & Parks Department, this project will “daylight” and restore the historical Yosemite Creek to a more natural state. Daylighting the historic Yosemite Creek will collect excess stormwater flows along Wayland Street and McLaren Park, and possibly continue downstream - perhaps one day, connecting the creek to the San Francisco Bay. Community input during the planning phase of the project will help guide the design and specific elements in the Upper Yosemite Creek Daylighting project. The planning and design will be responsive to the community values and feedback received at community meetings and interactive online surveys.
