Mangrove Discovery Eco-Park is envisioned as a catalyst project that can be the first of a dynamic network of mangrove parks along the shoreline of the Bay of Panama. The first of its kind in the country, this eco-park represents the opportunity not only to restore and protect the mangrove habitat, but to also educate Panamanians and tourists about this fragile yet valuable ecological system.

The park experience is organized in three main loops: Learn, Explore, Fun. The design idea is founded on the principal that through exciting programming the project can attract visitors unfamiliar with mangroves. As a result, visitors will discover and understand the importance of some of the key functions that mangroves provide: habitat to migratory birds and juvenile marine life, flood and storm resiliency, and cleaning/purification  of urban and stormwater runoff.



The design is inspired by the site’s mangroves themselves, resulting in a design that is vibrant yet ecologically sensitive. The architecture of the main pavilion, towers and other site features are a celebration of beauty observed in mangroves. A nature-themed playground, exciting ziplines and zipbikes, and the park’s demonstration garden will attract children and adolescents. Visitors of all ages can enjoy the park’s overlooks, board walks, trails and educational areas. The program proposed in Mangrove Discovery Eco-Park will amplify the recreational opportunities currently available in the area while enhancing wildlife habitat and coastal protection.
