Making Public Spaces More Public: CharlieCube

This installation strives to form a real- time social network that plays with elements of public input as a generator of networks and results, while at the same time invoking feelings of privacy, approval, exclusiveness, and honesty.

The cube serves as a portal to a network in which only people with the local artifact are able to contribute to. The portability of the installation allows for the capture of a moment that is unique to the person and place.

The project explores the idea of network specifism in that it reveals how a virtual environment could be altered based on real physical aspects. A system that evolves based on not only where the object is placed but also on the community that is involved with it.

The CharlieCube is an object that connects people and aggregates their inputs on a local scale to create a distinctive public realm of varying measure.
